I was sweeping the living room when Ike came and touched my bum bum.
"You have a soft bum bum" He teased me, "Unlike my wife's bum bum that is very stiff."
"Hey! Do not talk down on my Aunty" I cautioned him.
He cackled with laughter, "Look at you, you're so gullible that you don't know the things happening behind your back."
"Sir, please, can you explain further?" I requested, pretending like I didn't have an idea of Aunty Amaka's plans.
"Erm, your so-called Aunty is planning to take half your father's property," He revealed.
I dropped the broom in my hand and then wrapped my arms across my chest, "You mean Aunty Amaka wants to take what belongs to me? I will not accept that."
"What will you do about it?" Ike asked curiously.
I realized I couldn't do anything a few minutes later after I had thought about it.
"You see, you're just a loner, no one to fight your battles - but I will help you," He said grinning.
I was curious to know how he could help me; he saw the curiosity all over my face, "I will talk to my female colleague at the chambers; I'm very sure she would be of help to you."
I was not just surprised, I was amazed, "Are you a lawyer?."
He adjusted his shirt before answering, "Yeah, I'm a lawyer..."
"A charge and bail lawyer, I guess," I said, almost laughing.
He shoved my insulting attitude off and went ahead to prove me wrong, "I'm not a charge and bail lawyer - I'm almost at the level of becoming a senior lawyer."
There was a quizzical expression on my face, "Then, why does she treat you badly?."
He smiled broadly, "Your Aunty is just an arrogant woman who only cares about herself."
"Why did you marry her when you knew she wouldn't respect you?" I asked him.
He shook his head in regret, "I was blinded by love and now I know love is not enough."
We talked for about an hour then it dawned on me that I hadn't washed the clothes she had asked me to wash.
"Where are you running to?" Ike interrogated.
"I'm going to get her clothes - I need to wash them" I replied.
He rose to his feet and then held my hand, "Follow my lead" He instructed.
We moved over to a narrow path that led to a room not big enough; in it, there was a brand new washing machine, "You can use it, and do not tell her you used the washing machine," He sternly warned me.
"I will not tell her," I said reassuringly.
Before she returned home with the kids, I had washed and dried the clothes.
I followed Aunty Amaka to the bedroom to show her the clothes I had washed.
She looked at the clothes thoroughly and then probed, "Why are the clothes very dry? I thought the clothes would be a bit wet - did you use the washing machine?."
"Washing machine? Is there a washing machine in the house?" I asked pretentiously.
She was not ready to banter words with me so she gestured with her hand, "Get out..."
Ike smiled the moment he saw me coming out of the bedroom, "Did she ask you about the washing machine?" He whispered.
"Yeah," I answered shaking my head.
We heard footsteps behind us and I moved quickly into my room while he returned to the living room.
The next day, Ike returned from the chambers with good news. He had told me about the things he discussed with his colleague.
"Barrister Nonny would like to see you for clarification..."
"How do I see her?" I asked curiously.
"I will take you to her office tomorrow don't worry..." Ike said to me.
Kamsi, Aunty Amaka's daughter walked in and saw her Dad whispering something to me. She ran out to inform her Mom.
She came in, she had changed from the lovely gown she wore to the shop. Now, she had a wrapper loosely tied around her waist and a blue T-shirt, "What are you two doing there? I hope it's not what I'm thinking?" She roared.
Ike was man enough to talk back to her, "What are you thinking?."
I was already standing by the door, "In case she loses her mind, I would be outside by that time," I thought.
Aunty Amaka maintained decorum, she sighed and returned to the bedroom. Ike scrolled through his phone.
Story continues.
