I Forgave Him, Then He Poisoned Me (A Story You Need to Read)

Episode 4

He told Eniola my best friend to hold my mouth open while he poured the rest of the raw content in.

I was lying there, unconscious on the cold floor. They poured everything down my throat. Then Eniola paused. She stepped back and said, “Arinze… look. Tears are falling from her eyes.”

Arinze hissed. “Mtchew, and so? Relax!"

Even in that unconscious state, my body could feel the betrayal, from the two people I loved so much.

“Let's rush her to the hospital now,” Arinze said. “If she dyes there, her mother won't suspect me.”

He quickly picked up his phone and called my mum. She had been waiting to hear from him.

“I just got to her house,” he said. “I found her unconscious. I’m rushing her to the hospital. But I saw a car leaving the compound when I came in.”

“What?!” My mum screamed. "I felt it, I knew something was wrong with Simi. Oh God, please don’t let anything happen to my only child!”

Her cries irritated him. Just before he ended the call, she begged, “Please, Arinze… take care of Simi for me. I wish I could come down to the city, but my health won’t let me travel.”

“Okay, ma,” he replied coldly, and ended the call. They carried my body to the car. I was barely breathing.

As Arinze drove he glanced at Eniola. “So, how do you see the plan? The moment she forgave me, I acted fast, before anyone even found out we were back together. If I had waited and something happened to her, people would start asking me questions. But now? No one even knows we got back together… so no one will suspect me. I convinced her to sell that property, and she already signed the documents. I’ll meet the buyer first thing tomorrow.”

Eniola smiled. “Sharp guy. So we’re flying to Dubai, right?”

“Haha! Of course. Big money now. We can finally be together openly. No more hiding. No more guilt.”

Eniola nodded. “Yeah. It’s better this way. She could have ruined everything for us if she stayed alive. But wait… where are the documents?”

“Oops, I left them on her table.” Arinze said. “Don’t worry. As soon as the doctor confirms she’s gone, we’ll go pick them up.”

As they arrived the hospital, the doctor examined me and shook his head.

“Any hope, doctor?” Arinze asked, pretending to be worried. The doctor sighed. “She’s in critical condition. But we’ll do everything we can.”

Arinze sat in the waiting area, not hoping I would survive. He was only waiting to hear one thing: that I was gone.

But then, another thought crossed his mind: "Eniola is too soft. Imagine her stopping me from pressing Simi’s neck with a pillow. She could expose me one day. Maybe this whole plan… should end with me alone. Eniola must go too.”

He picked his phone and called Eniola, who was waiting in the car.

“Hello, babe.”

“Yes, my sugar?”

“You can drive home. I’ll come over later.”

“Oh? You don’t want me to wait?"

“No need. I don’t want people to know we came here together.”

“Alright, no problem. Don’t forget the documents.”

“I won’t. Bye.”

He ended the call, smiling to himself. Eniola thought she was part of the plan, but Arinze had something darker in mind, something she didn’t see coming.

After a while, the doctor returned. “She’s regained consciousness,” he said.

“What?!” Arinze jumped up. His face changed.

“She’s still very weak. Some of her organs were affected. But she’s stable for now,” the doctor added and walked away.

Arinze stood there, frozen. That wasn’t the news he wanted. He rushed into the ward to see for himself.

There I was… lying in the hospital bed. Pale. Weak. Barely able to move. A drip was connected to my arm. The doctor had already told me Arinze brought me in. That he was the reason I was still alive.

I looked up at Arinze, my heart full of gratitude. “Thank you so much… for saving me,” I whispered.

He smiled sweetly, pretending to care.
“Anything for you, darling. I’ll always be here for you," he said.

Tears filled my eyes. I felt so loved.
“I love you so much,” I said softly.

“I love you more,” he replied, gently holding my hand.

Then I asked the question I couldn’t shake off. “What really happened to me? The last thing I remember... was drinking a glass of wine.”

He took a deep breath, but before he could answer, his phone rang again. It was my mum. He didn’t want to talk to her, so he handed me the phone. As I spoke with her, she said something… Something that shook me to my core.

I slowly turned… and looked at Arinze.

He was staring at me, watching my face carefully, trying to read my reaction.

Then the ward door opened. A man walked in and said, “Are you Mr. Arinze?”

He turned, surprised. “Yes.”

The man nodded. “Your attention is needed… outside.”
