So a few days later Joshua invited Shehri to his house to meet his parents. He told her they wanted to finally meet her in person and give their blessings. She was surprised that they were the ones who really wanted to see her. She got there with him and his parents greeted her coldly but with some pretentious smiles. She sat down and the mother said,
"We have accepted you for our son but as part of our family tradition we have to take two of you somewhere to find out if you are medically fit and compatible. We need to know your blood group and other tests that could risk your future offspring."
"No problem, mama."
That was when they all took off to the hospital and she couldn't even read their hearts to understand that they just wanted to confirm what their only son had told them a few days ago. That he was the one who was sick not Shehri.
So they got to the hospital and the doctor was already waiting for them. Without uttering any further words he said, "Can we proceed?"
There was no objection as they followed him to the lab and their blood samples were collected. Then they all waited in the hospital for a few hours expecting the doctor to come out with the final report. They never told him why they were carrying on the series of tests on them but they knew the main report they were looking for.
It was not about the blood group or compatibility but something deeper.
They all knew Shehri had tricked Joshua their son into an illusion making him believe he was sick instead of her.
When the doctor terminated he called them to his office, and said, "We finally conducted all the tests that you required, Mr. and Mrs. Tatah. Can you sit,"
"No problem," but they needed some secrecy and requested, "Joshua, can you both excuse us,"
"But mom," he wanted to be there to testify to the doctor's report but his parents wanted it to remain between them. He had no choice than heed to his parents demands. So he held Shehri's hand and they walked out of the room. They waited at the door, while he was more worried, wondering what they were discussing and what was the doctor's report. They waited for his parents at the waiting room on the pew on each other's arms wishing they were going to approve their marriage finally.
At last Mr. and Mrs. Tatah pushed the door open and walked out of the office. Then the son rushed to his parents, "What did the doctor say?"
"I am sorry son, there is good news and there is bad news. Let's get home first."
They made the lovers burning with curiosity.
